Val Johnson | Tracks North, A journey by train to Darwin and surrounds

  • Landscape with red dirt, trees, a little hut and a blue and yellow sky
  • Yellow and green field with a blue sky.
  • Twisty trees and hills with bright colours green, yellow, purple and red
  • a bright orange hill with a blue sky and a green tree in the forground

Val Johnson’s latest exhibition traces a journey through the Australian landscape, following her travels from Melbourne aboard the Overland train and continuing north on the Ghan from Adelaide. Along the way, Johnson captures the shifting terrain and atmosphere of places such as Alice Springs, Katherine Gorge and Darwin, translating these experiences into richly observed oil paintings. From the vast interior to the lush wetlands of the Top End, the exhibition reflects a deep engagement with place, movement and memory, inviting viewers to travel alongside the artist through a distinctly Australian passage.
